Somos the Future

The Premier Latino-Led Political Action Committee

Somos the Future

Our Mission

Our mission is to ensure powerful Latino voices in the electoral process, and to elect leaders who champion fairness and equity across immigration, workers’ rights, healthcare, education, environmental justice, and housing.

Somos the Future

About

In 2024, COPAL launched a sister organization, Somos the Future. While COPAL continues its vital work as a movement organization dedicated to community advocacy and support, Somos the Future will operate as a legally separate political action committee.

Somos the Future is designed to amplify the voice and influence of the Latino community within the political arena, focusing on mobilizing voters, endorsing candidates, and ensuring that our community’s needs, dreams, and perspectives are prominently represented at every level of government.

Latinos are among the fastest growing populations in the United States. By 2060, it is projected that over 1 in 4 Americans will be Latino. We need elected officials that will fight for the well-being of our communities.

Empowering Latino voices

Why Your Vote Shapes Our Future

When we show up at the polls, we ensure Latine voices are front and center in political decisions.

Your daily life is on the ballot

Local and state leaders make decisions that directly impact our public school funding, local wages, housing costs, and healthcare access.

Our community holds real power

Latine voters are one of the fastest-growing voting groups in the nation. In close local and state elections, our turnout can be the deciding factor.

Investing in our neighborhoods

Our community contributes every day to our local economies. We all pay taxes. Voting ensures those public dollars actually come back to our neighborhoods.

Accountability starts with a ballot

If an elected official makes commitments to our community and fails to deliver, voting gives us the power to replace them.

We set the legislative agenda

Politicians pay attention to the communities that show up to vote.

Building long-term political power

Voting consistently ensures our community's needs are never ignored.

Protecting our workers and families

Showing up to vote elects leaders who share our values and who respect workers' rights, defend immigrant communities, and push back against harmful policies.

Honoring our ancestors

Voting honors those who made sure we were heard and shows our children that their voices matter.

Why do endorsements matter?

Our powerful, member-led political endorsement program drives elections outcomes and shape public policy. We endorse candidates who are committed to advancing a shared agenda for improving the quality of life of Latino communities. Additionally, endorsements create a system of accountability, holding politicians responsible for fulfilling the promises they make during elections.

How do we decide who to endorse?

Selected candidates are invited to complete a questionnaire and participate in screening. During the screening, a member-based committee interviews the candidate about their support for our political platform and other relevant values. Members then arrive at a consensus about whether to recommend an endorsement to the Board of Directors.
